About London Islamic School

Thirty years of learning, faith, and community

For three decades, London Islamic School has been a place where children grow in knowledge, in character, and in their love of Allah. What started as one community’s commitment to its children has grown into a school that families across London and the surrounding region trust with the most important years of their children’s education.

Our Mission

Academic excellence and spiritual growth

London Islamic School provides an Islamic learning environment where academic excellence and spiritual growth go hand in hand. Through modern teaching practices and a full Ontario curriculum, we prepare our students to pursue higher education, build meaningful careers, and serve their communities as confident Muslims and engaged Canadians.

Our Vision

Learn. Lead. Inspire.

We envision a generation of students grounded in the Qur’an and Sunnah, equipped with the skills to excel academically, and committed to contributing positively to the world around them.

Our Values

What guides us every day

01

We hold high expectations for every student and give them the support to meet them.

03

We nurture honesty, respect, discipline, and compassion in everything we do.

04

Service

We teach students to use their talents in service of their community and beyond.

Our Story

A community commitment that keeps growing

London Islamic School opened its doors in 1996 with just 60 students and classes up to Grade 4. Founded as a full-time private school and a natural extension of the London Muslim Mosque, LIS began with a simple but ambitious goal: to give Muslim children in London an education that honoured both their faith and their future.

That first group of students set the foundation for everything that followed. By 2002, LIS had expanded to Grade 8, a major step that let families keep their children in an Islamic learning environment through the end of elementary school.

In 2015, the school opened the LIS Preschool, the first Muslim licensed daycare in the community. It extended the same care and standard of excellence to our youngest learners. Four years later, in 2019, the Fraser Institute recognized LIS as one of the top schools in London, affirming the strength of our academic program.

Growth has continued steadily every year. Today, LIS serves more than 450 students from preschool through Grade 8. To meet the needs of a growing community, the school acquired LMM Woods in 2023, expanding our capacity and opening new opportunities for the future. The LMM Woods Expansion is now in its third and final phase, creating dedicated space for students to learn, grow, and thrive.

The Next 30 Years

Building the future, brick by brick

As we mark our 30th anniversary, we give thanks for the families, educators, and supporters who built this school. We are also looking ahead. Our vision for the Islamic school of the future rests on three pillars:

01

Place

Spaces designed for how students learn and grow

02

Program

An education rooted in faith and academic excellence

03

People

The educators, families, and community who make LIS what it is

We are building this future deliberately, brick by brick, for the next 30 years and beyond.

Academics & Islamic Studies

Ready for secondary school and beyond

LIS serves students from Kindergarten through Grade 8 and is fully compliant with the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum. Our academic program is designed to be rigorous and comprehensive, so that every student leaves us ready for secondary school and beyond.

Alongside the Ontario curriculum, students receive daily instruction in:

Qur’an

Recitation, Tajweed, and memorization

Arabic

Language skills that connect students to the Qur’an and their heritage

Islamic Studies

Aqeedah, Fiqh, Seerah, and Islamic manners, taught in an age-appropriate way

French

Learning extends beyond the classroom through enrichment programs, field trips, and our summer program, Camp Shine, which offers hands-on learning, exploration, and community outings for students each summer.

Leadership & Community

A school built together

LIS is owned and operated by the London Muslim Mosque and guided by a dedicated leadership team and board who share a commitment to the school’s mission.

Our school is more than its classrooms. It’s built by parents who volunteer, teachers who go beyond the lesson plan, alumni who stay connected, and a wider community that has supported LIS for 30 years. We believe a child’s education is a shared responsibility, and we’re grateful to everyone who carries it with us.
