Academics at London Islamic School

Academic excellence and Islamic identity, together

At London Islamic School, academic excellence and Islamic identity grow together. Our program is fully aligned with the Ontario curriculum and enriched with daily Islamic Studies, Qur’an, and Arabic. Together they support the intellectual, spiritual, and personal growth of every student.

Kindergarten to Grade 8

Learning with faith and purpose

From their first day of Kindergarten to their Grade 8 graduation, students learn in an environment that expects their best and helps them reach it. Recognized by the Fraser Institute in 2019 as one of the top schools in London, LIS prepares graduates to succeed in secondary school and beyond, grounded in faith, knowledge, and a strong sense of purpose.

Our Campuses

Two campuses, each designed for its learners

LIS serves students across two campuses. Each one is designed for the age and stage of the learners it serves.

Kindergarten to Grade 2

LMM Woods Campus

Early Years

A strong start for every learner

Preschool

The LIS Preschool opened in 2015 as the first Muslim licensed daycare in the community. Children are introduced to learning through play, exploration, and routine, in a warm environment where Islamic manners and values are part of everyday life.

Kindergarten · LMM Woods Campus

Our Kindergarten program follows Ontario’s play-based Kindergarten Program. Children develop early language and math skills, social and emotional confidence, and curiosity about the world around them. Each day also includes their first steps in Qur’an, Arabic letters, short du’as, and the stories of the Prophets.

Primary Division · Grades 1 to 3

Students in Grades 1 and 2 learn at the LMM Woods Campus and move to the Main Campus in Grade 3. During these years, students build the core skills that everything else depends on: reading fluency, writing, number sense, and problem solving. Islamic Studies focuses on the pillars of faith, daily worship, and good character. Qur’an instruction builds recitation and memorization of short surahs.

Junior Division · Grades 4 to 6

In the junior grades, students apply their foundational skills to more complex ideas across language, mathematics, science, and social studies. They learn to research, think critically, and express their ideas with confidence. Islamic Studies expands into Seerah, Fiqh of worship, and Islamic history. Arabic instruction grows to include reading comprehension and vocabulary.

Intermediate Division · Grades 7 and 8

Our oldest students are prepared for the academic demands of secondary school. Learning becomes more independent and analytical, with greater emphasis on writing, advanced math, and inquiry-based science. Islamic Studies helps students connect their faith to real-life questions and the world they live in. As senior students, Grade 7 and 8 learners take on leadership roles in the school community and model the values LIS stands for.

Early Years at LMM Woods Campus

Kindergarten to Grade 2

Where Faith and Curiosity Grow Together

At London Islamic School, our youngest learners begin their journey at the LMM Woods Campus, a space designed for children in their most formative years. From Kindergarten through Grade 2, students build the foundations that will carry them through school and life: early literacy and numeracy, confidence and independence, and a love for Allah and His Book. Our nurturing environment encourages children to ask questions, try new things, and grow at their own pace, surrounded by teachers who know them well.

What does learning look like for our youngest students?

Young children learn best when they are engaged, supported, and given room to explore. In our early years program, teachers meet each child where they are. Some students need more time with a new concept, and others are ready for the next challenge. Learning happens through play, conversation, hands-on materials, and guided instruction, all within a day shaped by Islamic values.

At LIS, we bring this to life through:

Learning through play and inquiry

Following Ontario’s Kindergarten Program, children learn through purposeful play, exploration, and discovery.

Small-group instruction

Teachers work with children in small groups to strengthen reading, writing, and math skills at the right level.

Faith woven into every day

Qur’an, du’a, and Islamic manners are part of the daily rhythm, not a separate subject alone.

Strong home-school partnership

Families stay connected to their child’s progress and are welcomed as partners in their learning.

Our teachers work alongside students to:

  • Celebrate growth and achievements
  • Build good habits and character
  • Identify areas where extra support helps
  • Nurture confidence and independence
The early years shape how a child sees learning, their faith, and themselves.

The LMM Woods Learning Experience

A warm bridge between home and school

The LMM Woods Campus is a warm bridge between home and school. Our classrooms are designed specifically for young learners, with spaces that spark curiosity and invite children to explore. The campus’s outdoor surroundings give students room to play, move, and connect with the world Allah created.

We believe children learn best when ideas connect. A lesson on plants might bring together science, counting, drawing, and reflection on the blessings of creation. This kind of learning keeps children engaged and helps them see how knowledge fits together.

Our classrooms support independence and collaboration

  • Hands-on learning materials that support every area of development
  • Flexible spaces for whole-group, small-group, and independent work
  • Learning centres for reading, math, building, and creative play
  • Outdoor learning, play, and nature walks

Early Years Curriculum

LIS Main Campus

Grades 3 to 8

Where Knowledge Meets Character

At the LIS Main Campus, students build on the strong foundations of their early years and grow into confident, capable learners. From Grade 3 through Grade 8, students take on more challenging academic work, deepen their understanding of their faith, and develop the independence and leadership they will carry into secondary school and beyond. Teachers know each student well, as a learner and as a person, and hold high expectations while giving them the support to succeed.

The Main Campus is a place where questions are welcomed, effort is valued, and every student is encouraged to use their talents in service of their community. Here, learning and faith are not separate parts of the day. They grow together.

Our motto, Learn. Lead. Inspire., guides everything we do:

Learn

Pursue knowledge with excellence, curiosity, and sincerity

Lead

Take responsibility, make good choices, and set an example for others

Inspire

Live Islamic values in a way that uplifts family, school, and community

Grades 3 to 8 Curriculum

Students continue to strengthen their recitation and Tajweed while memorizing progressively longer surahs. In the upper grades, they also explore meaning and reflection, connecting what they recite to how they live.

Islamic Studies

The Islamic Studies program builds year over year, from the fundamentals of Aqeedah and worship to Seerah, Fiqh, and Islamic history. In Grades 7 and 8, students take on real-life questions about identity, ethics, and being a Muslim in Canada, preparing them to carry their faith with confidence into high school.

Arabic

Students grow from reading and vocabulary to grammar, comprehension, and writing. The program strengthens their connection to the language of the Qur’an and the wider Islamic tradition.

Students move from building reading fluency to analyzing literature, writing in a range of forms, and presenting their ideas clearly. Through novel studies, research projects, persuasive writing, and public speaking, they develop the communication skills needed for success in every subject.

Mathematics

Following the Ontario math curriculum, students progress from multiplication, fractions, and geometry to ratios, algebra, and data analysis. The program also includes coding and financial literacy, with an emphasis on reasoning, problem solving, and showing understanding.

Science & Technology

Through hands-on experiments and design challenges, students explore life systems, matter and energy, structures and mechanisms, and earth and space systems. Students learn to ask questions, test ideas, and draw conclusions like scientists, while reflecting on the wonder of Allah’s creation.

Social Studies, History & Geography

In Grades 3 to 6, Social Studies takes students from communities in early Canada to Canada’s role in the world. In Grades 7 and 8, History and Geography explore how Canada was formed, how people interact with the physical environment, and the global issues shaping our world today.

French
