Arabic Language Learning

Arabic is a highly rewarding language to learn and understand. Being an essential language for understanding the Holy Qur’an, Arabic can also benefit professional development and academic scholarship.

Students attending London Islamic School are provided with the opportunity to learn Arabic as a Foreign Language from preschool to grade 8.

The Curriculum for our Arabic Language Program is presented in Arabic; it provides a progression of Specific Learning Outcomes throughout all grades. The Specific Learning Outcomes for each grade reflect knowledge, skills and attitudes that students are expected to achieve by the end of each grade. The Language Learning of students focuses on meaningful and functional learning activities that are best structured around topics based on students’ experiences and interests.

The following table illustrates the number of hours of Arabic instruction across all divisions:

Kindergarten: 160 minutes per week
Grades 1-6: 180 minutes per week
Grades 7-8: 180 minutes per week

Students are provided with the appropriate level of instruction and support to ensure that they are engaged and motivated as learners.
